SIFT signs declaration on artisanal fisheries

Date: 11/10/2011

SIFT has joined over 150 European fisheries organisations and maritime interest groups to call for a reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy so that there is greater support for environmentally and socially sustainable artisanal fisheries.

SIFT has signed up to the Scale Matters: Quality Counts declaration which aims to secure sustainability through reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy.

The declaration was co-ordinated by OCEAN2012, a coalition dedicated to ensuring that the 2012 reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy stops overfishing, ends destructive fishing practices and delivers fair and equitable use of healthy fish stocks.

More information about the declaration is available at www.ocean2012.eu/qualitycounts
