With increasing evidence of the unsustainable trapping of Scottish wrasse for use as ‘cleaner fish’ by the aquaculture industry, SIFT is pushing for a sustainable and properly regulated wrasse fishery.
We are working to revive the Firth of Clyde’s once great fishery.
It is vital that Scotland’s existing inshore fishery legislation is replaced. In particular, new legislation must enable the introduction of modern fisheries management measures and improvements to governance structures.
Members of the public can find it difficult to understand the complexities of the marine aquaculture planning process. This often prevents local communities from engaging with, or influencing, how their local sea areas are managed.
